Take Classes at Home

Are education opportunities limited by where you live? Not at all! Today’s learners can access education from home or a nearby location and can schedule classes around their work or other activities. Both youth and adults can benefit from distance education courses offered through the North Dakota Division of Independent Study and the North Dakota University System.
The North Dakota Division of Independent Study (DIS) is accredited by the ND Department of Public Instruction. It provides opportunities for middle school students, high school students, and adults who do not have high school diplomas to:
• take courses that aren’t offered locally;
• continue their education while homebound, disabled, or even living in another country; and
• earn a high school diploma through alternative methods.

For more information, contact your school counselor or the Division of Independent Study, Box 5036, Fargo ND 58105-5036; phone: 701-231-6007; fax: 701-231-6052. The Division also has a website at www.dis.dpi.state.nd.us/.

North Dakota University System (NDUS) colleges and universities offer both undergraduate and graduate courses by distance education. For more information, refer to “NDUS Distance Education Opportunities” on page 38, and to the clearinghouse of distance education at www.access.ndus.edu.

When you are considering distance education, make sure it’s a legitimate operation. See the Degree Mill Alert article on page 47.
